Support Engineer ICT Telecoms Infrastructure UG

The Artisan Telecommunication is responsible for installation, repair and maintenance of all Telecommunication Equipment Surface and Underground within an area of responsibility.

Minimum Required Qualification:
  • Be in possession of a S1 or T1 (preferably in Telecommunication / Networking or Instrumentation) or higher qualification. or Be in possession of a Grade 10 or N2 or NQF level 3 (preferably in Telecommunication / Networking or Instrumentation) with minimum 3-5 years working experience in Telecommunication / Networking or Instrumentation field.
The Appointee should:
  • Have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a related role.
  • Have computer skills (MS Office and Symplexity).
  • Be analytical and have attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to plan and organise work.
  • Have the ability to schedule and prioritise work.
  • Be medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Have clear security screening record.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that system availability is optimised by conducting daily visual checks on Telephone Exchanges. Repairing of faulty telephone lines Surface and Underground. Testing and repairing of 2 meg Fibre links. Installation of new Telephone lines Surface and Underground. Monthly checks and Testing of Exchange UPS backup power. Monthly testing of Exchange Generators
  • Ensure that prompt action is given to sub-standard activities.
  • Provide technical Telephone support, answering queries either onsite, remotely or via phone or email.
  • Adhere to maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure that audits on adequacy and quality of systems, procedures, practices (measured against standards / SOP’s) are done on time / regularly.
  • Ensure that SOP’s and standards are adhered to on a continuous basis.
  • Ensure workflow is optimised in line with changes in technology or output requirements.
  • On-time replacement / repair of hardware, Telephone network system and related software and or electronics to ensure production continuity.
  • Ensure over-inspection schedules are adhered to.
  • Drive to areas where work is required.
